MATCH PREVIEW: Derby County v Liverpool Ladies

Liverpool Ladies will continue their preparations for the 2015 Women's Super League with a friendly away at Derby County, a club who play in the Northern Premier League.

This game has been rearranged from Wednesday 4th February to Tuesday 17th February and will kick off at 7:30pm, entry is £2 for adults and £1 for U16s.

Derby County are fresh from a 12-0 win over Mackworth St Francis Ladies at the weekend and have won 3 of their last 4 games. The club also booked their place in the 4th round of The FA Cup early in February by beating Eastbourne Town 4-2 after extra time; midfielder Aimee Perry scoring twice and Cara Newton and Samantha Griffiths with one apiece. Despite progress in the Cup, Derby have struggled in their current league campaign - picking up just 3 points in their last 10 games.

For Liverpool, the reds comfortably won their first pre-season friendly 4-1 over WSL2 side Aston Villa last weekend. No.9 Natasha Dowie was in great form scoring twice - the second a lovely chip over the oncoming keeper after breaking through Villa's defence.

The reds attack looked dangerous throughout, but particularly during the first half with Nicole Rolser back and Kate Longhurst staking a claim for a starting place amongst the attacking players.

Line Smorsgard has yet to appear for the reds, we could well see her and fellow new signing Asisat Oshoala on Tuesday evening. Lucy Staniforth could also be in line to make her long awaited return from injury, returning to training a couple of weeks ago now.

Defensive duo Ingrid Ryland and Satara Murray made their Liverpool debuts during the game last week as well, Murray especially impressing and looking a real coup of a signing. The centre-back won every header in defence and scored a thumping header from a Fara Williams corner.

The friendly also seen Matt Beard give debuts to five of Liverpool's development team; Mayumi Pacheco, Emilie Revitt, Vicky Rumsey, Bethany Donoghue and Rachel Darbyshire. 18-year old Revitt has since received a call-up to train with the Wales international senior squad for the first time.  The game will kick off at 7:30pm, Anderson Electrical Arena, Borrowash, DE21 7PH. Entry is £2 for adults and £1 for U16s. Live updates on Twitter @LFCladiesfans for anyone who can't make it!

Two more things - on Sunday 31st January I had the honour of representing Liverpool Ladies at the newly formed FAWSL Fan Panel at St George's Park. It was a great day meeting with staff from the league and supporters of other clubs who had travelled from all over the country and are all committed to promoting and supporting women's football, you can read more about the aims of the panel here.

Finally make sure you pick up the new copy of the official Liverpool FC magazine which is out in shops this month, there is a 3 page article looking back at last season and looking forward to the upcoming campaign by yours truly! Thanks for reading, Heather.
